Mission
The Mount Community Centre is motivated by poverty reduction and community development. As we transform our iconic building and exceptional grounds, we focus on affordable housing and food security, and work with partners with complementary values and expertise. The Mount Community Centre’s future is as a one-of-a-kind centre for the communities that we nurture and serve.
Core Promise
For many years, the very large home and property known informally as “The Mount” became empty and silent. It was left to an uncertain fate. At its centre was a historic building that had no clear future.
Just over a decade ago, those who dreamed about that future saw potential for ambitious renovation and renewal. It required a fresh identity for “The Mount” and a commitment to breathe new life into every nook and cranny of this old building. Yet our core commitment is not solely to a building. It is to those who now live here, people who come from a variety of backgrounds, often with dreams of a better life, seeking a safe place to call home. It is to those who work here as staff, volunteers and non-residential tenants – who collectively bring dedication to social services, the natural environment, education and better health care. And it is to our wider community, with great appreciation of generous support and belief in our cause.
We have arrived at the right time to articulate our core promise to all. In our beautiful, welcoming, park-like setting, we are a place for renewal and change. We nurture a sense of belonging plus imagination, learning and determined action. With our partners and supporters, we will work through social innovation toward better individual and collective futures, toward changing lives and building communities.
